Grit is a personality trait. It is perseverance and courage and determination towards a long term goal. It is pressing on when things get hard, it his holding on when you think you can't, it's like rowing a row boat. Row boats are hard to row. There's two paddles and one person rowing. You have to face backwards. It's hard to do, especially by yourself. Rowing a row boat by yourself takes grit. I know from experience.

This quarter I will get out of bed almost every morning and maybe come to school.
